Jaipur is the capital of India’s Rajasthan state. It evokes the royal family that formerly ruled the region and that, in 1727, founded what is now called the Old City, or “ Pink City ” for its trademark structure color. At the center of its stately road grid( notable in India) stands the opulent, colonnaded City Palace complex. With amphitheaters, yards and galleries, part of it’s still a royal roof.
Jaipur was conceived and developed in a single phase in the 18th century CE with a grid- iron model inspired from the Prastara plan of the Vastu Shastra, a composition of traditional Hindu armature. This city plan latterly came a trendsetter for numerous 19th century CE municipalities in Rajasthan State and India. erected under the patronage of Sawai Raja Jai Singh II( ruled 1700 – 1743 CE), a design approach was taken towards the megacity construction where utmost of the megacity structure, public and royal spaces were completed within a span of four times, from 1727 – 1731 CE along with special royal assignations to several dealers inviting them to settle in this recently imaged trade and commerce megacity.
The design of the new megacity was a breath- taking departure from the current practices in megacity development in thesub-continent. Its civic morphology reflected the coming together of artistic rudiments from eastern and western planning, expressing a culture of a ‘ trade and commerce megacity ’ and townscape that’s unequaled anywhere in South Asia. imaged as a trade capital, the main avenues of the megacity were designed as requests, which still remain as characteristic stores of the megacity. Chaupar, or designed large public places at the crossroad of roads, is another point that’s distinct to Jaipur as are its single and multicourt havelis and haveli tabernacles. Besides an exemplary planning, its iconic monuments similar as the Govind Dev tabernacle, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal excel in cultural and architectural artificer of the period.
